The leading edge electrolysis membrane
ZIRFON is Agfa’s separator membrane for alkaline water electrolysis that consists of an open mesh polyphenylene sulphide fabric, which is symmetrically coated with a mixture of a polymer and zirconium oxide. This construction is rapidly growing to become the preferred choice of major research institutes and system developers as the replacement material for the traditional structures that include PPS cloth or asbestos. An increasing number of nations ban asbestos for use because it represents a serious health hazard. ZIRFON is also selected by many because it boosts the overall performance of electrolysis systems in terms of output and operational efficiencies.
PROVEN VALUE
FOR BOTH SYSTEM DEVELOPER AND OWNER
SUPERIOR PRODUCTIVITY
Great system stability regardless of the operational parameters (temperature, alkalinity degree, ..)
MINIMAL ENERGY COST
ZIRFON’s unique ionic conductivity and exceptional gas pressure resistance, allows for electrolysis at high current densities.
NO ASBESTOS
To date, already 55 nations around the world have banned any use of asbestos.
SUSTAINED EFFICIENCY
Thanks to life-long hydrophilicity without the need for surfactants
PROVEN DURABILITY
Thanks to the reinforcement with fabric and the material’s low shrinkage property ZIRFON can post durability of 10+ years of real-life operation.
SYSTEM NEUTRAL
The system stability and efficiency benefits that ZIRFON delivers are independent of operations parameters, type of electrolyte and operation mode (continuous or on/off)
