Sensor and display technologies as well as in-mould electronics pave the way

PRINTED, FLEXIBLE ELECTRONICS DRIVE THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

According to an industry report from IDTechEx the global demand for printed electronics by the automotive industry will reach USD 13 billion by 2031. The reasons for the massive adoption of flexible electronics are threefold. Printed electronics use thin substrates and greatly contribute to reducing the overall weight of automobiles, which is a major concern of manufacturers of electric vehicles. Secondly, automobiles have grown smart very rapidly, as a consequence the man-machine information exchange is infinitely more complex than ever before. This requires a dashboard equipped with a very compact and ergonomic interfaces design. Finally, thanks to novel materials and production techniques, the implementation of printed electronics enables car designers to meet the most stringent requirements with the most elegant interior designs.
