Window decal printing using Agfa inkjet printers and ink

Printing window graphics using a variable pixel mask

Window decals are stickers that are applied to glass surfaces, either on the inside or outside. They can be used for advertising products or services, promoting your brand or simply blocking the sunlight. The stickers can be printed using an inkjet printer that outputs two layers of color ink with a white layer inbetween. This color-white-color sandwich makes sure that the prints look great from both the inside and the outside and that the colors are rich and vibrant. Ideally, the white layer is variable: in light areas, only a little bit of white is used while in darker image parts more white is added. This video shows how visually appealing such a variable pixel mask print can be.

Generating the mask for the white ink is an automatic function within our Asanti workflow, allowing an operator to add the effect with a single click. In the video, the solid white areas in the artwork become transparent on the decal. By adding another layer in the artwork a combination of transparent and pure white areas can be achieved.

For the decals in this video, an ultraclear self-adhesive vinyl was used. Alternatively, you can also use window clings. These are materials that use static electricity instead of an adhesive to stay adhered to the glass. Window clings are easier to install and they can be removed and installed again. That, however, also makes them more vulnerable to vandalism in public areas.

Regardless of your choice of substrate, Agfa inks make sure your window graphics look great with rich colors that remain vibrant, even in direct sunlight.
