Questions answered
- What is the composition of my substance?
- How do I compare the sameness of different batches?
- Where do I get reference information such as IUPAC names and CAS numbers?
What is REACH regulation?
REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemical Substances) is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of both human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. It establishes procedures for collecting and assessing information on the properties and hazards of substances.
Companies need to register their substances and to do this they have to work together with other companies who are registering the same substance. ECHA, the European Chemicals Agency, receives and evaluates all individual registrations. The agency’s scientific committees assess whether the risks of a substance can be managed.
Next, the EU member states can raise health or environmental concerns about selected substances. These authorities can ban hazardous substances if they consider the risks unmanageable. They can also decide to restrict the use.
Why execute a REACH analysis?
Sometimes it is clear that only a specific item is needed, such as an NMR spectrum with a report that confirms structure and purity. This can be easily provided for.
At other times, however, the reach testing requirements are unclear. And things can get even more complicated. How do you name your substance in accordance with IUPAC rules? Do you know how to find the right CAS number? And so on …
A multidisciplinary AgfaLabs team guides your through this process and provides you with the necessary data, ready for use.
REACH analysis methods and report
In REACH analysis, a variety of analytical methods is typically employed, such as:
- chromatography (LCMS, GCMS, GPC)
- spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, UV/VIS, NMR, XRF, XRD)
- physicochemical analysis
- comparative/sameness testing
- preparation of IUCLID data
We can carry out a REACH analysis and hand over a report that is completely ready for submission. Or we can provide you with a report gearing towards a specific technique that is momentarily not available in the data at hand.
