Heartlab, Inc. announced today that three more of Japan's leading cardiac care institutions.

Heartlab, Inc. announced today that three more of Japan's leading cardiac care institutions have ordered the company's Encompass(tm) Cardiac Network. They are Miyazaki Shigun Ishikai Hospital in Miyazaki City, Tachikawa General Hospital in Tachikawa and Tokyo Medical University Hachioji Medical Center in the Hachioji section of Tokyo.

This brings to 10 the total number of hospitals in Japan that have selected Heartlab's network, the leading filmless cardiac imaging network system in use today. The other hospitals that have already installed the Heartlab system are Tokuyama Central Hospital, Soka Municipal Hospital, Osaka City University Hospital, Shin Tokyo Hospital, Chiba University Hospital, Shizuoka Prefecture General Hospital and Gifu Municipal Hospital.

The Encompass system connects to all major cardiac X-ray and ultrasound systems using the industry-standard DICOM communications protocol, creating a central repository of digital images and associated reports of physician findings. Using Heartlab's network connected diagnostic review stations, clinicians have instantaneous access to several thousand diagnostic cardiac examinations stored on the Encompass Enterprise Server. In less than 30 seconds, they can access historical cases stored on the Encompass DVD archive. Additionally, clinicians can reference patient data from any PC using only a Web browser over secure local area network, wide area network or Internet connections.

Heartlab's DVD archive is 10 times faster than competing technologies, and provides scaleable capacities to store from 3,600 to more than 70,000 cases, depending on the needs of the institution. By eliminating the costs associated with film processing, storage and retrieval, the filmless Encompass system helps hospitals realize significant savings in their annual operating costs.

Using Encompass, hospitals can share important cardiac examination data with other patient data management systems supporting the enterprise, including the hospital information system (HIS), and the cardiology information system (CIS). By expanding access to data across systems, Encompass improves workflow so hospitals can operate more efficiently.
