- Agfa HealthCare’s next generation MUSICA image processing software regarded as key differentiating factor by Sunnybrook for its ability to promote excellent imaging quality and enable meaningful radiation dose reduction - Sunnybrook’s installation of two DXD-600s adds to the broad list of currently installed Agfa HealthCare solutions within the hospital including Agfa HealthCare CR, two DR X-ray rooms, IMPAX PACS and RIS - Long-standing relationship with Sunnybrook showcases Agfa HealthCare’s customer-centric approach and commitment to advancing value-based care initiatives for hospitals

Agfa HealthCare announced today that Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre selected the DX-D 600 full room Direct Radiography (DR) suite to transition two X-ray rooms from analog to DR. The selection followed a thorough review of several DR technologies in which Agfa HealthCare’s DX-D 600 in combination with its MUSICA image processing software was determined as ideally suited for the hospital’s large and fast-paced trauma centre.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre’s Bayview Campus in Toronto has the largest regional trauma centre in Canada. Caring for patients and their families at critical times in their lives, conducting leading-edge research, discovering innovative approaches to care, teaching the latest advances in health care, and its affiliation with the University of Toronto, all distinguish Sunnybrook as one of Canada’s premier academic health sciences centres.

“When evaluating products to upgrade two of our X-ray rooms to DR, Agfa Healthcare’s DX-D 600 was a clearly superior choice for our facility due to its impressive image quality,” commented Henry Sinn, Director of Medical Imaging, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. “We expect the implementation of the DX-D 600s to be a smooth transition as our radiology technologists are already familiar with and prefer Agfa HealthCare’s technology for its exceptional image quality and user friendly MUSICA workstation interface.”

The installation of two DX-D 600s will add to the broad list of currently used Agfa HealthCare solutions within the hospital, including Agfa HealthCare Computed Radiography (CR) (both powder and needle phosphor), two DR X-ray rooms, IMPAX PACS and RIS. The addition of the DX-D 600 systems allows for a unified look and feel to image quality across another X-ray modality.

The DX-D 600 full room DR suite is a high-productivity, high-throughput general radiography system available in different configuration options to meet the demanding needs of busy radiology departments. The system can be equipped and combined with multiple digital detectors – fixed or portable – which all deliver excellent crisp diagnostic images due to the lowest pixel size available in the market.

Integrated with Agfa HealthCare digital radiography solutions, Agfa HealthCare’s industry-leading MUSICA image processing software brings multi-scaled image processing to a new level by showing exquisite detail in low noise images that allow technologists to capture consistently high-quality images at a lower possible dose. Furthermore, MUSICA is applied automatically without the need for time-consuming window leveling or re-processing of images. The Cesium Iodide (CsI) Detectors, used with Agfa HealthCare’s full line of DR product solutions, allow dose reductions of up to 60%*, helping hospitals conduct exams following the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), with the goal of delivering an optimum balance between low radiation dose and high image quality.

“We are excited to continue our long-standing relationship with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with the installation of our DX-D 600 full room suites,” said Kristen Andreopoulos, Imaging Solutions Manager, Agfa HealthCare Canada. “It has been an honour to work side-by-side with Sunnybrook for the past several years as a trusted resource in the centre’s efforts to continually improve workflow, staff efficiency and patient satisfaction with the use of our ground-breaking new technologies.”

*Testing by Agfa HealthCare with board certified Radiologists has determined that Cesium Bromide (CR) and Cesium Iodide (DR) Detectors when used with MUSICA processing can provide dose reductions of between 50 to 60% when compared to traditional Barium Fluoro Bromide CR systems.
