Orgacon™ can also be applied in polymer displays. In comparison to a glass cell, a polymer cell offers reduced weight (1/3) and thickness (1/2), improved mechanical properties, flexibility and allowing irregular shapes. A typical passive matrix TN cell has to be built-up in a specific way (see figure). The conductive layer is patterned in rows and columns. The patterned layer can also be used as an alignment layer for liquid crystal material, because it is polymeric and retains a flat surface after patterning. This eliminates the time-consuming and high-temperature step of the alignment layer application. Low-Information-Content polymeric displays are perfectly suited for smartcards and portable devices.
Orgacon™ are application for flexible LCD, e-Paper, cholesteric, PDLC and guest-host display types, too.
