IMPAX Data Center
Image Enable the EHR
The IMPAX® Data Center serves a key role in creating a longitudinal imaging enabled Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or regional Electronic Health Record (EHR) bringing the last major information space, Imaging, in a unified, tightly integrated and centrally managed system.

Enterprise Medical Imaging Repository for Your Requirements
Specifically, the IMPAX Data Center is a family of products that create an incrementally and massively scalable imaging management solution designed to Capture, Manage, Archive, and Visualize multi-facility, multi-departmental, and multi-specialty imaging and image related patient record for a wide range of organizations including:
Individual Hospitals
Hospital Groups
Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN)
Health Information Exchanges (HIE/RHIO)
National Health Systems
Military Health Systems
Due to the nature of IMPAX Data Center's architecture and service components, the solution can be tailored to meet almost every organizational size and structure. Whether your organization is a small rural hospital pursuing a forward thinking EMR strategy, a regional IDN seeking a contiguous multi-facility patient EHR, or large multi-state, multi-facility Hospital Group needing to centralize and better manage exploding imaging volumes, the IMPAX Data Center can easily be scaled to fit your specific needs.
Integrate Data across Regions, Facilities, and Departments
The IMPAX Data Center creates a true longitudinal patient imaging record by integrating and linking multi-facility, multi-departmental, and multi-specialty imaging data. Many departments create imaging data that should become part of the imaging record.
Leave No Data Behind
The IMPAX Data Center supports storage of an extremely rich variety of DICOM 3.0 medical images and diagnostic results including DICOM-encapsulated images, reports, waveforms, and .pdfs that can be classified in the following general data type categories:
Non-visible light - images, cine (DICOM, JPEG, TIFF, BMP)
Visible light - images, video, video w/sound, cine (DICOM, MPEG, AVI, WMV)
Waveforms - ECG, Audio, etc… (DICOM, MP3, WMA)
Reports - DICOM SR, HL7, PDF, etc… (DICOM SR, DOC, TXT, PDF)
From a file-format perspective, the IMPAX Data Center supports consumption of most all data types used in medical imaging today.
Create a Single Patient Record
A universal goal of most care providers is to unify the patient record across their many member entities. As an Enterprise Medical Imaging Repository, the IMPAX Data Center transparently merges the fractured patient record into a contiguous longitudinal view of patient health imaging record.
To perform this critical function, the IMPAX Data Center has native, built in support for integration to an Enterprise Master Patient Index using standard IHE PIX. The IMPAX Data Center uses the MPI information to internally match patient imaging and report data across multiple patient ID domains. When patient data is requested either by a diagnostic system, such as a Radiology, Cardiology or Ophthalmology Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), or by an enterprise clinical user accessing the patient record via the EMR, the IMPAX Data Center provides the complete patient record, transparently, each time every time.
Consolidate and Share Data across PACS
The IMPAX Data Center has been designed tightly around IHE, DICOM 3.0, and HL7 standards such that it operates as a PACS vendor-neutral archive. Now organizations can break the barriers of sharing data and effectively share data across regional hospitals that have both atomistic homogeneous and/or heterogeneous PACS systems. With the IMPAX Data Center, patient care delivery is enhanced because all PACS systems are collectively building and sharing a single central archive of prior patient examination data that when queried presents a more complete historical view of the patient condition.
End Data Migrations
No longer will your departments be forced through expensive and time consuming DICOM data migrations each time they change imaging systems. The IMPAX Data Center takes ownership of the long-term, permanent patient imaging record providing a final centralized storage location for imaging data. When a departmental imaging system is replaced with a DICOM 3.0-based system, it can be purchased without a dedicated long-term archive, reducing cost, and integrated with the IMPAX Data Center as its permanent archive where it can store new studies and find the complete historical patient imaging record for reference.
Trust Experience
Customers can count on the IMPAX Data Center. Agfa HealthCare's over fifteen year history of delivering medical imaging repositories has built a wealth of knowledge in multi-vendor interoperability and know-how, and a clear focus on the challenges encountered when creating a centralized patient imaging record. To enable interoperability and dramatically reduce deployment costs and challenges, Agfa HealthCare has applied our practical experience in the design of the IMPAX Data Center resulting in straightforward interoperability through implementation of and strict conformance to industry standards such as:
