(RSNA – Booth# 8324) Agfa HealthCare, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT solutions, announces today that it will show its works-in-progress enterprise visualization solution, IMPAX Data Center Viewer, powered by XERO, at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, to be held November 29-December 3, 2009 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
IMPAX Data Center Viewer is a "zero footprint" medical image and report viewer developed to provide access to imaging information for clinicians at any point of care. It works in conjunction with IMPAX Data Center, Agfa HealthCare's medical image repository, which is integrated with all departmental PACS and archives all medical images and reports. This allows local retrieving and viewing of images and reports from multiple departments.
"By image-enabling the EHR (Electronic Health Record), IMPAX Data Center Viewer will help hospitals and healthcare facilities transform patient care," said Lenny Reznik, Director of Enterprise Imaging and Information, Agfa HealthCare USA. "Images from any department will be accessible from anywhere in the healthcare enterprise. IMPAX Data Center Viewer brings the complete patient imaging record into the healthcare enterprise and makes image storage and viewing a seamless part of the EHR."
Powered by Agfa HealthCare-developed XERO technology, a Web 2.0 platform that uses an AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) interface to manipulate text and image information in the user's Web browser, IMPAX Data Center Viewer converts images and content for display in the browser without requiring any client software installation. "Other systems that claim zero download actually require a plug-in," Reznik said. "IMPAX Data Center Viewer is a true thin client, requiring absolutely no download to the client computer. Using XERO technology, IMPAX Data Center Viewer uses the native capabilities of the Web browser to provide users with a rich imaging viewing experience."
Using standards-based interfaces and powerful image processing, IMPAX Data Center Viewer will allow clinicians to retrieve, view, and manipulate images and provides ubiquitous access to imaging information, including DICOM data types, DICOM-encapsulated PDFs, DICOM structured reports, and images encoded in a wide variety of DICOM-supported formats.
Extending the EHR to include medical images and related information from multiple departments provides specialists and remote clinicians with secure and meaningful access to the longitudinal patient imaging record. An easy-to-use interface ensures that first-time and infrequent users, such as referring physicians, will need no special training. IMPAX Data Center Viewer is compatible with multiple web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple Safari; and multiple operating systems, including PCs running Microsoft Windows and Linux, as well as Apple Macs; and can be used on a variety of web-enabled devices.
