Agfa HealthCare announced today that Greenville Hospital System (GHS) will install Agfa’s IMPAX for Orthopaedics at three offices of its sports medicine partner, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas (SHCC), a nationally renowned leader in sports injury diagnosis and treatment.

The transaction, completed in conjunction with reseller VirtuRad, was based on SHCC's desire to enhance its overall quality of care and existing patient services by providing rapid access to all patient images and information at any of their facilities

"The open architecture of IMPAX will support true integration, validation and storage of images into the GHS enterprise PACS, and that's exactly what we were looking for to advance the services at Steadman Hawkins," said SHCC's Dr. Kyle Cassas. "As a result, imaging studies will correlate appropriately with relevant prior studies, thereby decreasing medical risk. We like the system's flexibility and the fact that it is web enabled, allowing us to easily view MRI studies in the exam rooms and operating rooms."

Agfa's IMPAX for Orthopaedics will support all imaging and informatics at SHCC's Greer, Patewood and Hillcrest facilities. The solution is designed to match the orthopaedic workflow with patient-physician interaction, linking all diagnostic images and relevant reports to the exam room where the physician and patient can discuss treatment in more detail.

"Steadman Hawkins is a premier provider of sports medicine orthopaedics, and we are pleased they have recognized the value we can bring to their clinics," said Mark Zdanowicz, Agfa HealthCare's Marketing Manager, Ambulatory Care, North America. "They are known for their commitment to utilizing only the best products and systems for orthopaedic treatment. Having a leader like SHCC choose Agfa is a true testament to the strength of our products, our people and our commitment to high quality patient care."

IMPAX for Orthopaedics provides a completely digital working environment for orthopaedic surgeons, from image acquisition to storage and distribution of pre- and post-surgical planning data through direct access to IMPAX. It includes a library of more than 12,000 templates from the world's leading implant manufacturers, software modules for optimized biometry, coxometry and osteotomy planning, and allows multi-modality reviews and multi-study comparisons, providing the necessary tools to assist orthopaedic surgeons in making informed decisions.

Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas offers the latest treatment options for orthopaedic injuries and disorders. Their experience and research have led to significant advances in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine. People from all walks of life are treated at their clinics, which include several in South Carolina that are affiliated with the Greenville Hospital Group, and several in Colorado. Among their patients are celebrated professional athletes from all over the world.
