Newspapers Plan to Migrate to Chemistry-free CtP First.

Before deciding which technologies and solutions to deliver at this year's Ifra, Agfa Graphics conducted a survey with some one hundred newspapers worldwide. Managers were asked how likely they are to invest in solutions and technologies including chemistry-free computer-to-plate production, digital printing, enhanced print quality, computer-to-plate process control and enterprise software before the end of 2009. Demonstrations at the company's stand focus on technologies that customers said they are looking for: enterprise software, enhanced print quality, CtP health monitoring or process control, and, most popular of all with newspapers interviewed, chemistry-free violet plates.

Agfa Graphics Demonstrates Chemistry-free Violet-laser Polymer Digital Plate.

The Agfa Graphics stand at Ipex offers showgoers a technology preview of a working chemistry-free plate for Violet-laser CtP. Agfa Graphics’ violet chemistry-free plate will use ‘photopolymerisation’ as the digital imaging principle. After the violet laser forms the printing image, no chemical process affects or alters it in any way. Prior to a cleanout step, the plate is preheated to stabilise and harden the printing image so that non-image areas can be removed safely using preservative gum.
