Jaroslav did his internship at Agfa from 15/11/2006 – 15/05/2007. He is currently employed as professor at the Faculty of Technology, University of Novi Sad in Serbia.

Why did you choose Agfa Discovery among the internship programs?

Since it is the application of knowledge rather than the knowledge itself that I am interested in, I have found the AGFA’s internship program quite a unique opportunity to truly discover the place where theory and practice merge into the one- a high-tech product. The project I was proposed to take part in, fully matched my field of interest, it was highly interdisciplinary and above all indeed challenging. In addition to this, being a part of a brilliant research team in a highly multinational environment so as the possibility of using the state-of-the-art experimental techniques in your research made the choice an easy one.

What values did your internship bring to your studies in the university?

Prior to the internship I had already been involved in research at my university. The internship in the Agfa’s research centre has provided me with an industrial, money-making point of view. At Agfa I have experienced what responsibility truly means. What the planning, priorities and decision making process looks like in an industrial research environment, is something no university can teach a student.

Has the internship at Agfa made any influence to your career? If yes, can you explain it? Where are you working now?

I have every reason to believe that the internship at Agfa will shape my professional life to a fascinating extent. Although my internship is already finished, I will take part in the Agfa’s research project in the following 20 months. However, this time not as a student but from the position I have in my university in Novi Sad. What’s more, the network of academic institutions created around the Agfa’s project will hopefully result in a new European project with me as a representative of the Faculty of Technology, Novi Sad, a new network member.

Could you develop your theoretical and practical knowledge during your time at Agfa?

If one is involved in a research taking place at the very frontiers of science, not only they are bound to develop both practical and theoretical knowledge but also an ‘out of the ordinary’ way of thinking, as well. And here at Agfa, it’s all about the frontiers. The logistic support of the company is simply fantastic. Brilliant researchers at your disposal, exceptional research equipment available and access to a number of data bases all together provides a highly stimulating learning environment.

How would you summarize your internship time at Agfa in 2-3 sentences?

Being able to cope with the challenges of the frontier research made me realize my possibilities and know myself better. It was a fantastic professional experience heavily spiced with an all-over-the-globe students friendships. And all this in the heart of Europe.

Would you recommend this placement program for the other students?
